PART OF THE PLAN Camp Talks 2023
Introduction to the Evening Talks
We are really excited for this year’s talk theme. These talks look at the grand metanarrative of Scripture: God’s plan of redemption. We will start by discussing the idea that we all have something that we are building our lives on, and how Jesus is the best cornerstone.
We’ll talk about how God made humans with value and purpose but we chose to go our own way. But even as God details the consequences of the fall in Genesis 3, he points to Jesus who would come to redeem all things to himself. As the week continues, we will look at Jesus and how he came to be Saviour and King and how we can live in light of this reality, building our lives on him and being part of his body.
This year there are seven talks in total, although your camp may need fewer. The extra talks can be given as part of follow up or during the rest of the summer. If you need to skip a talk, be sure to read through what is covered on that night that might be important to include with another talk.
If there are multiple people giving the talks at your camp, be sure to read through each others’ talk nights so you know how your talk fits into the overall theme and message.
Please remember to highlight the importance of community after camp in your final talks. We know that the week after camp is critical for whether or not young people will continue to follow Jesus or not after camp.
We recommend that students who are interested in reading the Bible stories themselves know where to find the stories. This can be done through the speaker mentioning it, or by it being written on the PowerPoint slide or somewhere on a bulletin board.
We also recommend that the individual local teams study these stories and be ready to answer questions that the students might have.
Often, the most impactful part of the evening talks are the testimonies - when people share their personal stories and what God has done in their lives. If you think you, or a member of your team, could add a testimony to any of the talks, please do so. We have suggested ideas for testimonies throughout the talks. A testimony should be a short personal story, with God in the center. A testimony is not preaching, giving advice or a devotional. The challenge at the end should be clear and target your exact audience. You should get to know the students, figure out where they are and form the challenge in a way it can be understandable and relevant.
We are so excited for how God will work through these talks through the power of his Holy Spirit! Know we are praying for you as you prepare to share the gospel at camp this year.
