9 Square in the air

Game Instructions:

  1. Play like 4 Square if you know that game, but with 9 squares.

  2. Set up the 9-square game

    1. To borrow the Društvo Več 9-Square contact Shawn Werdebaugh at +386 70 565 019 or swerdebaugh@drustvovec.si (he is in charge of warehouse supplies)

  3. Start with 1 person standing in each of the 9 squares.

  4. The “King” in square #9 serves the ball throwing the ball in the air and then hitting it to another square

  5. The ball always must go over the poles (through someones square)

  6. The person that gets the ball in their square then hits it into another person’s square (through their own square and into another)

  7. If you are not able to hit the ball into another person’s square, you are out and everyone in lower numbered squares advances up in number, with someone who was waiting in line taking square #1.

  8. If the ball bounces multiple times on the lines/poles, it is fair.

  9. You cannot return the ball by hitting it up through someone elses square - it has to go through your own square first.

  10. Whoever touches the ball last if it goes out of bounds - is out.

Spice it up by making it a glow night! with glow sticks, glow paint, black lights, glow tape, and a light-up beach ball

Optional glow night version

9 Square On the Ground

Game Instructions:

  1. Play like 4 Square if you know that game, but with 9 squares.

  2. Tape or draw a 3 x 3 grid of squares on hard ground, with each square about 2 meters wide.

  3. Number each square moving around the outside squares with number 9 in the middle.

  4. Start with 1 person standing in each of the 9 squares.

  5. The “King” in square #9 serves the ball by bouncing it on the ground in their square and gently underhand hitting it into another person’s square.

  6. The person that gets the ball in their square then underhand hits it into another person’s square.

  7. If the ball bounces more than once in your square or you are not able to hit the ball into another person’s square, you are out and everyone in lower numbered squares advances up in number, with someone who was waiting in line taking square #1.

  8. If a player hits the ball overhand, they are out.

  9. If the ball bounces on an outside line it is fair.

  10. If the ball bounces evenly on a line between players, the player in the square that the ball toward must hit the ball.
